Fender Efficacy in Coffee

General Objective:

Demonstrate the efficacy of the application of FENDER™ to the soil as a nematicide in the coffee crop by evaluating nematode populations.

Trial 1 – Alajuela

Details of the trial:
  • Location: Dulce Nombre de Alajuela – 1492 masl
  • Variety: Caturra Coffee
  • Plantation age: 7 months
  • Area: 2.3 Ha
  • Variables to be evaluated:
    • Number of nematodes
    • Genera of phytopathogenic nematodes present
  • Time of evaluation: 0, 15, 30, 30, 60 and 75 days after application.
  • Treatments:
    • FENDER™ Treatment 7L/Ha (150 mL/plant)
    • Counter Treatment

Details of the trial:
  • Location: San Marcos de Tarrazú – 1471 meters above sea level.
  • Variety: Caturra Coffee
  • Plantation age: 1 month old
  • Area: 0.46 Ha
  • Variables to be evaluated:
    • Number of nematodes
    • Genera of phytopathogenic nematodes present
  • Time of evaluation: 0, 30, 60 and 90 days after application.
  • Treatments:
    • FENDER™ Treatment 7L/Ha (150 mL/plant)
    • Non applied

Trial 4 – Tarrazú

Details of the trial:
  • Location: San Marcos de Tarrazú
  • Plantation age: 2.5 years – 20 years
  • Variables to be evaluated:
    • Number of nematodes
    • Genera of phytopathogenic nematodes present
  • Time of evaluation: 0, 30, 60 and 120 days after application.
  • Treatments:
    • Treatment FENDER™ 7L/Ha (150 mL/plant) + BEMIX™ as dispersant.

Results


Conclusions

It is concluded that the nematode control of FENDER™ is very good at 90 days after product application.

Evaluations: 90 days decrease of Meloidogyne population from 40 to 70% in 2.5 years old and 20 years old plants.

In both washed root and field-dirty root the weights in each plant are similar to the standard of the plantations, we do not have the data of the absolute control.
